Abstract

1469263 Potentiometers XEROX CORP 14 Nov 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 49373/74 Heading HIS An insulating part-spherical member 3 and a relatively fixed insulating ball 12 have spiral resistive strips 5, 13 on their inner and outer surfaces respectively, the strips being contacted by conductive ball bearings 21, 51 carried by a second part-spherical member 8, so that when member 8 is rotated the resistances of the strips between bearings 21, 51 and respective terminals 14, 6 can be varied either together or independently. As shown, member 8 is conductive and earthed, and is positioned by insulating bearings 22, 31, 32, 41, 42, 52 in addition to conductive bearings 21, 51. The ball 12 is supported by a centering compression spring arrangement 17. The potentiometer may be used in association with the X and Y co-ordinate positions of a marker on a CRT screen.
