Abstract

1468506 Flexible decorative coated sheet materials IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 March 1974 [26 March 1973] 14346/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division B6] A decorative sheet material in the form of a roll comprises a flexible porous substrate provided, on what is its decorative surface, with a flexible uncured coating of an acidcurable resin which is curable by an acid containing adhesive applied to the other surface of the flexible sheet material so that when the sheet material is unrolled and attached to a wall or other surface by means of the acid-containing adhesive, which at this stage is applied to the other surface of the flexible material, the coating cures. Suitable acid curable resins include formaldehyde condensates of amino and amide compounds, e.g. urea, melamine, substituted melamines, guanamine, ethylene urea and thiourea and the alkylated derivatives of these condensates. Other suitable resins include acrylic copolymers containing acrylamide and methacrylamide which have been condensed with formaldehyde and alkylated derivatives of these condensates. A suitable substrate is a paper sheet although woven, non-woven and felted fabrics may be employed. The paper sheet may contain a blend of cellulosic fibres with artificial fibres, e.g. nylon, rayon or acrylic.
