Abstract
1448813 Marked adhesive elements POLYMARK Ltd 9 Aug 1973 [11 May 1972] 21046/ 72 Addition to 1215007 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] An element attachable by heat and pressure to a surface to be marked is formed by applying to a pre-marked flexible support a heatcurable film forming resin composition which includes N-alkoxymethyl groups and acid or acid-yielding groups, whereby in use the element is pressed onto a surface with heating to cure the resin which forms a permanent bond. The element or the element described in Specification 1215007 may be made by applying the resin composition to a temporary support and passing the coated temporary support and the flexible support through the nip of rollers. Alternatively the resin may be impregnated from solution or dispersion into a label support dried, then coated onto the dried impregnated label. Surfaces to which the element may be attached include textiles, fabrics and other sheets of leather, wood, glass or plastics. Suitable resin compositions include (1) methoxymethyl substituted nylons, including an acid or acid-yielding compound, (ii) soluble polyamides in the presence of methoxymethyl substituted cross-linking agents (e.g. methoxymethyl melamine) and acid or acid-yielding compounds, or (iii) addition polymers as set out in Specification 1386392 with cross-linking agents specified in the Table of the said Specification, and acid or acid yielding compound. The marking may be pointed or be differently coloured yarn. In Examples, (1) terpolymer nylon composition is transfer coated onto a fabric label strip (2) a gel of butyl acrylate/ acrylonitrile/acrylic acid copolymer is roller coated onto a fabric label strip having a wovenin marking; separate labels are then cut from the strip, (3) the materials of (2) were used but coating was by knife-coating (4) the materials were as in (1) but the transferred coating was in the form of a pattern of dots (5) the nylon composition of (1) was changed to methoxylmethyl nylon in acidic alcoholic solution. The flexible support may be paper or plastics as well as fabric and the support may be further marked after coating.
