670,676. Coated flexible fabrics. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 5, 1949 [Nov. 17, 1948], No. 25596/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 60. [Also in Group VIII] A coated flexible abrasive disc comprises a water-absorbent cellulosic sheet backing, a layer of abrasive grains adhesively attached to one side of the backing and a foraminous non-hygroscopic sheet adhesively attached to the other side of the backing and having sufficient tensile strength to resist the tendency of the disc to curl when the cellulosic sheet absorbs moisture and sufficient flexibility to allow the disc to be bent when applied to a workpiece. The non- hygroscopic material may comprise a perforated aluminium, copper or tin sheet or a woven wire mesh. The adhesive securing the perforated sheet to the cellulosic sheet may be a phenolaldehyde, urea-aldehyde or resorcinol-aldehyde resin. The cellulosic material may be vulcanised fibre, paper or cloth, or a combination of paper or cloth sheets. The abrasive grains may be secured to the adhesive sheet by a synthetic resin adhesive, or by glue with a phenol-aldehyde sizing coat applied over the grains and glue. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 510,330.
