Abstract
1468466 Sheet product KESKUSLABORATORIO CENTRALLABORATORIUM AB OY 8 Oct 1974 [8 Oct 1973] 43478/74 Heading C3N A method of making a sheet product is characterized in that to the material to be made into the sheet product there are admixedaresoltype phenol formaldehyde resin solution and lignosulphonates in powder form prior to processing the mixture into a sheet product. The material is preferably wood chips, the sheet product being chip board. The water content of the material may be reduced before the admixture. The moisture content of the material after admixture may be 5-12% by weight. The resol solution may be used in an amount 2-8% by weight and the lignosulphonate powder in an amount 2-10% by weight. The lignosulphonates may have not less than 55% by weight having a molecular weight in excess of 5000. An additive such as an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde or furfural, and paraffin may also be added. In the specific Example a three ply chip board is formed from birch wood chips, the chips of the surface layers being finer than those of the middle layer. The pressing temperature is 215 C. and the maximum pressure 27 kg./cm<SP>2</SP>.
