.Process for the production of panels consisting of wood raw material and binding agent, such as chipboard, Fiberboard or the like.
The invention relates to a method for the production of wood starting material and binding agent Panels such as chipboard, fiberboard or the like.
In the manufacture of chipboard and similar products, the chips are usually up to a proportionate high dry substance content; then the binder is suitably used in Added in the form of a solution. The commonly used binding agent consists of urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde, Melamine-formaldehyde or other condensation products, for example binders based on Polyurethane, resorcinol formaldehyde and dicyandiamide formaldehyde. Sulphite liquor as waste material and lignosulphonates, which occur in large quantities in the production of sulfite cellulose, are also used as binders in the production used by chipboard.

It has been recognized that lignosulfonates with certain properties in combination with phenol-formaldehyde synthetic resin produce an excellent binder, for example for the production of chipboard. In this way it is possible to produce weatherproof chipboard by gluing wood chips with the aid of a solution which contains such lignosulfonates and phenol-formaldehyde synthetic resin, the boards subsequently being pressed in a manner known per se. The disadvantage of this method, however, is the relatively high moisture content of the chips, which is due to the glue that was applied to the wood chips in the form of an aqueous solution. In view of the viscosity of the glue solution, this solution must in most cases be used in such a strong dilution that the moisture content of the chips rises above 12%. As a result, the properties of the panels produced in this way are considerably impaired; In the worst case, the plates can burst open during pressing as a result of the generation of steam.
The object of the invention is therefore to develop a method of the type mentioned in such a way that the listed disadvantages be avoided.
This object is achieved in that the Starting material for plate production, such as chips, fibers or the like, a phenol-formaldehyde synthetic resin solution and lignosulfonates are mixed in in powder form, and possibly additives known per se; the material so treated is processed into plates in a manner known per se.
Mit der vorliegenden Erfindung wird der Vorteil erreicht, daß der Leimvorgang so ausgeführt werden kann, daß eine Änderung des Feuchtigkeitsgehalts des PlattenmaterialsWith the present invention, the advantage is achieved that the gluing process can be carried out so that a Change in the moisture content of the sheet material

For example In many cases it has proven to be advantageous in practice to check the moisture content of the glued Keep chips in a range of 5 to 12%. Through this it is possible to make weatherproof chipboard, which has excellent strength properties.
Infolge des geringen Feuchtigkeitsanteils neigen.die Platten nicht dazu, während des Pressvorgangs aufzuplatzen; zugleich werden die Kosten für einen Trockenvorgang herabgesetzt .Due to the low moisture content, the panels tend not to burst open during the pressing process; at the same time the costs for a drying process are reduced .
Since the shelf life of the lignosulfonate powder is almost unlimited and the phenol-formaldehyde resin is used only in a small amount, the present invention has special advantages with regard to the shelf life of the glue, which is of great importance for practical use is.
In a further development of the concept of the invention, it is provided that the dried raw material phenol-formaldehyde resin of the resol type in an amount of 2 to 8 percent by weight the dry substance in the form of an aqueous solution and lignosulfonate powder be admixed in an amount of 2 to 10 percent by weight of the dry substance.
Advantageously, lignosulfonates, which have a specific molecular weight distribution, are used for the production of weatherproof chipboard. Such lignosulfonates are obtained, for example, by fractionating waste sulfite liquor in a manner known per se. In order to achieve the weatherproof properties, it has proven advantageous to use lignosulfonates, at least 55 % of which have a molecular weight of over 5000.
