1466949 Treating fabrics with liquids RIGGS & LOMBARD INC 8 Aug 1974 35106/74 Heading D1L Fabric webs are treated with a liq. e.g. solvent scoured, by passing the fabric 32 on a conveyor 38 beneath sheets 48 of liq. formed by spraying the liq. through nozzles 52 of tube 50 onto an arcuate baffle 54 attached thereto. The conveyor 38 may be foraminous or in the form of a mesh so that excess liq. passes therethrough and collects in tanks (74), (76) and (78), [Fig. 1 (not shown)], from which the liq. is either recycled to the tubes or overflows to lower upstream tanks. Fresh liq. is preferably supplied to the web downstream of the above tubes at (82), chemical reagents being added downstream thereof at (106). Excess liq. may be removed from the web, prior to passing the web into a drying oven (14), using a suction box (92) placed below the conveyor. The width of the suction slot (96) [Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown)] may be adjusted, in order to accommodate varying widths of web, by tapered curtains (98) and (100) trailing from a reefing roller (102).
