Abstract

Apparatus for the liquid treatment of open width textile materials comprises means for gathering successive increments of material into loose open width folds, compartmented conveying means carrying the increments through a tank of treating liquid, and means for removing the material from the conveying means. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the conveying means comprises a foraminous endless conveyor belt (29) having, at intervals along its length, baffles (53) extending perpendicular to the surface of the belt and forming compartments (58). Rollers (44) are provided at spaced intervals along the edges of the belt and are guided in tracks (46) having substantially parabolic configuration. The means for gathering successive increments preferably comprises an elliptical reel (57). The folds of material are preferably floated into the compartments (58) by means of liquid flowing down a tray (74) inclined above the compartments. The material is withdrawn from the tank by means of a guide roller (59), which may be a spreading roll, and then passed through a pair of nip rollers (61) and (62). Treating liquid is continuously supplied to the tank, the liquid level being kept constant, and steam heating means being provided if necessary. A foraminous shield (49) is provided in the upper part of the tank adjacent the upper edges of the baffles (53).
