Abstract
986,230. Ironing machines. A. FORMENTI. July 10, 1962 [Aug. 3, 1961], No. 26429/62. Heading D1A. Articles are ironed by placing them on a previously moistened carrier web 35 which is then passed between an apron 13 and a metal drum 6 heated e.g. by steam. The apron 13 is of felt, endless, and travels round rollers 7, 8, 9 and over part of drum 6. The web 35 is a canvas band which unwinds from a roll R1 passes over an upwardly bowed rod 31, around a roller 29 in a water trough 28, and on to a loading table 20 where the articles are placed on it and steamed, if desired, through holes in the table. After passing between apron 13 and drum 6, the band 35 moves along a conveyer belt 40 at the far end of which it is wound up on a roll R2. The tensions in apron 13 and belt 40 can be altered by screw and nut arrangements (Fig. 3, not shown) acting on rollers 9, 39. The machine is driven by a motor through a variable speed transmission.
