Abstract
1466775 Cooling assembly for converter vessels PENNSYLVANIA ENG CORP 18 Sept 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 40702/74 Heading F4B A metallurgical converter vessel 10 with support trunnion 16 has a lip cooling ring 11 comprising equal segments 19, 20, 21 and 22 containing a duct system 50 for conducting cooling fluid from the inlet 23 of each segment to the outlet 24. The segments are bolted through holes 52 to the upper portion of the furnace, and a metal ring 26 is bolted to the top flange of the segments to provide protection. The arrangement is such that in case of burnout of a segment water will not enter the molten bath. Additional cooling pipes 28 supplied jointly from feed header 30 and connected with a drain header 31 may be filled for cooling the upper portion 12 of the vessel. Coolant to the segments 19-22 and pipes 28 is supplied by a conduit 34<SP>1</SP> in the trunnion pin 18<SP>1</SP>. Coolant drains from the segments and pipes to a drain 42 within the trunnion 16 and leaves the vessel through a conduit 42<SP>1</SP> in the trunnion pin 18. In an alternative embodiment the cooling ring 11 comprises three segments (70), (72) and (74), Fig. 6 (not shown).
