Abstract

1466159 Automatic current control CORHART REFRACTORIES CO 24 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 17901/74 Heading G3R [Also in Divisions H3-5] A circuit for controlling the supply of current to the electrodes of a furnace for melting thermoplastic material comprises a resistor 52 in series with a triac 46 in the supply line to the electrodes, the voltage across the triac being fed to a capacitor 60, having a bias due to photo-resistor 58, so that this capacitor charges and fires uni-junction transsistor 62 to produce pulses which fire the triac 46. If the current in the supply line increases, the voltage across the resistor 52 rises and lamp 56 becomes brighter thus reducing the value of photoresistor 58, decreasing the bias on capacitor 60 and causing the uni-junction transistor 62 and thus the triac to be fired later to decrease the current to the electrodes. A further circuit is described, Figs. 5A, 5B (not shown), with provision for regulating the D.C. component of the electrode current.
