Abstract
1300809 Control systems for electrical soldering apparatus H KOBER 24 Sept 1970 [25 Sept 1969] 45495/70 Heading H2H Electrical soldering apparatus having soldering electrodes of carbon having a negative temperature coefficient is provided with means whereby the increase in current as the electrodes heat up is controlled. Elements to be soldered together are placed between carbon electrodes 1, 2 having a negative temperature coefficient and which are energized from an A.C. supply by way of a triac Tr, a current limiting resistor R 1 and a transformer 3. The supply to the transformer 3 is controlled by the triac Tr the trigger signal for which is derived from a circuit having a capacitor C 1 , resistors R 2 , R 3 and a break-over device D, one of the resistors R 3 being adjustable to control the firing angle of the triac. As the soldering electrodes 1, 2 warm up the volt drop across the resistor R 1 increases thus increasing the brilliance of a lamp L in parallel with the resistor R,. The light from the lamp L is arranged to fall on a photoresistor F such that an increase in the brilliance of the lamp due to an increased current caused by heating of the electrodes 1, 2 effects a reduction in the resistance of the photoresistor F. A capacitor C 2 charged by way of the photoresistor F is connected in parallel with the capacitor C 1 . Thus the de. crease in the resistance of the photoresistor F causes the firing angle of the triac Tr to increase thereby to decrease the current supplied to the transformer 3. A resistor R 4 and a manually operated switch 6 in parallel therewith is provided to affect the lamp brilliancy so that the apparatus can be adapted to the kind of soldering electrodes used with the apparatus.
