Abstract

1307244 Flash discharge circuit PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES LTD 29 May 1970 [3 June 1969] 25942/70 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] The duration of the flashing of a discharge flash tube 1 is dependent upon the foot candle value of light reflected by the object (to be photographed) onto a photo-sensitive element 14 said photosensitive element controlling the operation of a pair of thyristors 8 and 11. When the flash tube is ignited it receives current from a supply capacitor 3 and the current flows through the windings of the transformer 2 thereby charging a capacitor 17. The speed in which the capactor 17 is discharged is dependent on the photo sensitive element 14 whose resistance varies with the value fire light intensity received. The instant that the thyristor 8 becomes conducting is similarly dependant. Once thyristor 8 conducts the resistances 9 and 7 are such that the further thyristor 11 also starts to conduct, and the thyristors thereby discharge capacitor 3 until the tube 1 is exinguished.
