Abstract

1328655 Arrangement for electronic flash tube PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [8 Nov 1969] 52714/70 Heading G2A In an electronic circuit wherein the flashing duration of a flash tube 8 is determined by a control circuit containing a photo-sensitive element 22 connected to a controlled semiconductive rectifier 15, the energy lost by a main capacitor or energy source 3 is minimised by means of a second capacitor 12, connected so as to oppose the current causing the flash, which is usually isolated by a diode 14 and controlled semi-conductive rectifier 15 and thereby only allowed to discharge (terminating the flash) when the semi-conductor 15 in the control circuit is rendered conducting. A diode 16 and resistor 17 serve to provide means by which the second capacitor 12 may be charged initially together with the capacitor 3. In operation, a voltage is applied between the parts 18 and 19 and trigger electrode 20 of the tube 8 when a shutter mechanism of a photographic camera is actuated. The shutter mechanism also closes the switch 24 in the control circuit of controlled semi-conductive rectifier 15. The controlled semi-conductive rectifier 15 is actuated after the quantity of light, received by the photosensitive 22, which is reflected off the object being photographed is such that the battery 21 is able to charge a capacitor 25, as shown, to the necessary voltage to start conduction. In a further embodiment the capacitor 12 is replaced by a small battery with the diode 14 being replaced by a switching element.
