Abstract

1286989 Automatic control of speed ACIERS ET OUTILLAGE PEUGEOT 14 Oct 1969 [12 Nov 1968] 50444/69 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] The speed of a motor M (a series wound, commutater type) is kept constant by controlling the firing angle of a series connected triac T1 in response to the back e.m.f. The triac is triggered when the voltage on a capacitor C1 is sufficient to cause a diac D1 to conduct; C1 is charged from the A.C. supply via R1 and speed setting potentiometers P1, P2 but it is shunted by a transistor T2 whose conduction increases with increasing value of the back e. m.f., applied across its base/emitter via R3, thereby delaying charging of C1 and hence the firing of T1. Resistors R2, R4 determine the effectiveness of the shunt circuit and diodes D2, D3 protect T2.
