1466150 Ultrafiltration MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 6 Dec 1974 [8 Dec 1973] 52980/74 Heading B1X A process for removing and recovering a metal ion or ions from water containing them comprises incorporating a polymeric material or materials soluble in or swellable with water and capable of being chemically or physically bonded with the metal ion or ions into an aqueous solution containing the metal ion or ions thereby forming a chemical or physical bond therebetween and then forcing the aqueous solution under pressure through a membrane selectively permeable to water but not permeable to the polymeric material. The metals Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Hg, Ag, Cr, Co, Ni, Mn, As, Li, K, and Na are mentioned. Many suitable polymers are listed. The membrane may be of cellulose acetate or a synthetic polymer; it may comprise hollow fibre material.
