Abstract

1464579 Drawing glass rods SIEMENS AG 17 May 1974 [16 July 1973] 21981/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division B1] A laser device for heat softening cylindrical workpiece for subsequent drawing comprises a laser and an optical system for directing laser radiation on to the workpiece. The optical system includes a condenser lens 2 which directs the laser beam 1 on to a prism 3, the prism rotating about the optic axis 4 of the lens thereby causing the beam to move in a conical sweep, and a conical mirror 5 which intercepts the rotating beam and directs it on to the workpiece 8. The device is preferably employed in the manufacture of optical fibres by drawing glass rods.
