Abstract
1,273,983. Cutting by burning. SAMCOSTRONG Ltd. 18 July, 1969 [20 July, 1968], No. 34713/68. Heading B4B. An apparatus for cutting sheet material, e.g. textile material, comprises a laser device 16, 18 located above a table 12 and arranged to direct its beam 28 on to a first mirror 26 carried by a rotatable arm 22, the beam then being directed at a second mirror 34 mounted on a carriage 32 for movement along the arm and focused on to the material by a lens 36 to effect cutting thereof. The laser device 16, 18 is fixed to a frame 10 above the work-table and the arm 22 is mounted on a sleeve 20 rotatable about the housing of the laser. The table is movable both longitudinally and transversely. The movement of the arm and table may be under the control of a punched card system or an electronic control device. In modifications, the lens 36 may be dispensed with and the plane mirror 34 replaced by a concave one to effect both reflection and focusing and both the plane mirrors may be replaced by prisms.
