Abstract

Laser beam machining appts. has the workpiece fixed, while the machining head which projects the laser beam onto the workpiece is carried on a system of carriages which can be moved horizontally along two directions at right angles above the workpiece carrier table. Specifically, the source of the laser beam is also fixed, and it directs the beam in a direction parallel to the first direction onto a reflective device carried on one of the carriages, so that the reflected beam passes in the second direction at right angles to the first onto the working head. this is itself provided with a reflecting device which can reflect the beam in a vertical direction towards the workpiece table. Since the beam source does not have to be moved the carriager can be moved without the loads and stresses and strains accompanying them, consequently pattern copying is simpler and more accurate.
