Abstract
1463933 Alloying additions DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 27 Feb 1975 8335/75 Heading C2D In a method of adding alloy constituents to aluminium alloys, 97À5-99À9% of at least one particulate alloying element from maganese, chromium or iron, with a particle size of less than 0À25 mm, is blended with 2À5-0À1% of a non hygroscopic salt fusing agent and, if necessary, a small amount of binder and compacted into pellets “-¥ in diameter. The salt fluxing agent is preferably a non hygroscope metal halide, metal silico halide or complex mixture of these salts i.e. KBF 4 and K 5 Ma 3 Ba 2 (SiF 6 ) 6 , and the binder is sodium silicate. The density of the compact is greater than that of aluminium and the alloying addition may be either added directly to the molten alloy or melted down with the initial charge i.e. cold charging. Since the compacts are non hygroscopic, no particular precautions are necessary during storage nor is special protective packaging necessary.
