Abstract
1463771 Foam-making apparatus WALTER KIDDE CO Ltd 30 Dec 1975 [30 Dec 1974] 56057/74 Heading B1C Apparatus for generating foam, comprises a tubular housing across which extends a screen 18, a fan 14 disposed within the housing and arranged to blow air through the screen, means for supplying water under pressure to a turbine 11 to drive the fan, a set of primary spray nozzles 13 connected to receive water exhausting from the turbine and arranged to spray the water on to the screen, means for adding a foaming agent to the water prior to the spraying of the water on to the screen, a set of secondary nozzles 16 connected to be supplied through a secondary conduit 15 with a mixture of water and foaming agent and to spray the mixture on to the screen, and a valve 17 operable to open and close off the supply of water and foaming agent to the secondary nozzles. Further sets of nozzles each with its control valve may be provided, the arrangement being intended for control of the density of the foam produced. Venturi means may be provided in the conduit leading to each set of nozzles for adding to the water flowing in that conduit a proportionate quantity of foaming agent.
