Abstract

1463594 Toy figures L DE MASI 21 May 1974 [10 Jan 1974] 22633/74 Heading A6S A doll or puppet which simulates natural sucking motions has a head part 12 in which a face portion consisting of at least a mouth is made of an elastically deformable material and in which a recess 40 houses a connecting means 20, 24 which connects a support means 28-directly joined to the doll mouth-with a motor 18: The motor shaft 20 provides a circular motion which is converted into substantially straight-line motion by the connecting means 20, 24 such that the elastic portion of the face is drawn in and out to simulate sucking. The motor 18 may be located in the chest part 10 of the doll along with a sound producnig means 14 actuated by a button 16. The support means 28 comprises a plate 30, pivotally connected to the connecting means 24 and a substantially tubular element 32 fitted with an annulus 34 inserted in an opening in the doll mouth. The plate 30 carries contact means 44, 46, 48 such that the insertion into the tubular element 32 of an elongate member 52, 52' for example in the form of the end of a toy feeding bottle separates the two blade contacts 44, 46 which are in the sound producing circuit and connects the two blade contacts 44, 48 which are in the circuit of the motor; further insertion e.g. of a comforter 52', 54' disconnects the blade contacts 44, 48. To prevent unsuitable head parts from following the reciprocating motions, these parts are suitably stiffened e.g. by a padding 42 of soft and light material such as expanded polyurethane or expanded polystyrene or cotton wadding located within the head recess 40. A limited relative movement between the doll head 12 and chest 10 may be allowed.
