Abstract

1,135,001. Pliable figure toy. MATTEL Inc. 10 April,- 1967 [21 Nov., 1966], No. 16294/67. Heading A6S. A figure toy has a torso, pliable limbs including shoulder, elbow, hip and knee joints, and armature means comprising soft wire supports embedded in the limbs with rigid members fixed thereto, so that bent positions can be maintained at the limbs only: relative rotation between limbs and rigid members and between supports and rigid members is prevented. As shown, an armature means 50, embedded in the toy by positioning in a mold before moulding the toy, includes a rigid chest plate 52 to which are fixed soft wire supports 66, 74 with associated rigid members 70, 72, 80, 82, 84, made from rigid plastic material. Lateral extensions 100 on the rigid members prevent relative rotation between limbs and members, and lateral projections 102, 104, 105 prevent such motion between rigid members and soft wire supports. A base member 86 of magnetisable material simulates a space sled: the toy is attached thereto by magnets 90. Space-suit simulation is aided by the provision of accordion-type pleats 92 on joints 32, 36, 42, 46.
