Abstract

739,115. Mechanical figure toys. WELLS & CO., Ltd., A., and WELLS A. W. J. Oct. 20, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22222/53. Class 132(3). An animal figure toy is actuated by a clockwork mechanism which imparts a snapping movement to the jaws of the figure and operates a noise-producing device, the mechanism being stopped when a member is placed between the figure's jaws. As shown, the flyweight 19 of a clockwork mechanism 11 is connected by a link 21 to a pin 22 which engages the body 30 of the figure and reciprocates in a slot 23 in the base 10. An extension of the pin 22 operates a bellows 24 connected to a whistle 26 and trumpet 27. A lower jaw and front leg portion of the figure are formed as a unit which is pivoted to the body and base at 33 and 32 respectively and has a projection 35 which engages a projection 36 of a pivoted upper jaw 37. The reciprocating movement of the body of the figure causes the jaws to open and close but on placing a representation of a bone 39 between the jaws, movement of the figure and clockwork mechanism is stopped. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), a bellows squeaker is located in the body of the figure and the clockwork mechanism is also controlled by a stop arm movable by means of a cord attached to the " bone."
