Abstract

1463055 Slings FISONS Ltd 8 Jan 1974 [13 Jan 1973 10 April 1973 19 June 1973] 1898/73 17112/73 and 29121/73 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2A] A sling for lifting two stacks of sacks comprises a closed loop formed by non-separately joining the ends of a length of material 1 by linkage means, the length of material or the linkage means having an aperture 2 therethrough through which is passed a secondary component 3 attached to its length of material or formed therefrom at a position diametrically opposed to the aperture and having a lifting loop at the free end thereof. The dimensions of the aperture are such that at least two opposed sides thereof bear in frictional contact against the portion of the secondary component passed therethrough to retain same when the sling is released by lifting means. The stacks of sacks may be positioned on a platform 4 with a central aperture through which the secondary component is passed and the linkage means may comprise strips of material (6), (7) Fig. 2 (not shown), or an apertured plate Fig. 4 (not shown), secured between the free ends of the length of material 1. A spreader may be attached to the closed loop to open the lifting loop 5 for ease of handling by handling equipment. The spreader may comprise a length of webbing (10) Fig. 5 (not shown), wound around the length of material 1 and through the lifting loop or may comprise a plastics plate (11) Fig. 6 (not shown), inserted through the lifting loop and clipped to the length of material 1.
