Abstract

1462758 Fluid heaters CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 8 Oct 1974 [8 Oct 1973] 46838/73 Heading F4S Generally vertical thermosyphon circulation paths (arrowed in Fig. 2) are set up in a body of intermediate fluid (e.g. water) in a container 20 by one or more baffle plates 18 disposed in said container between a heater 10 (e.g. a burnerfired combustion tube) and a duct 28 carrying a flow of fluid to be heated (e.g. natural gas at high pressure), both the heater 10 and duct 28 being supported within the container and being withdrawable from the container via the same end thereof. As shown, there are two of the baffles 18 with the burner tube 10 therebetween, and with the duct 28 (in the form of a double-banked sinnous coil) on the other side of each baffle. The baffle, burner and duet assembly is secured to an end plate 30 and is removable therewith as a unit from the container 20. 36 are support plates attached to the baffles 18 and forming part of the withdrawable unit. 38 are side plates attached to the container wall and further defining the circulation paths of the intermediate fluid. The container has an expansion chamber 32 and a liquid level sight glass 22. A sensor (not shown) maintains constant the temperature of the intermediate fluid by controlling the burner 12. When natural gas is being heated in the coil 28 the burner fuel may be supplied by a tapping 42 from the outlet end of the coil.
