Abstract

146,274. Ide, R. W. May 17, 1915, [Convention date]. Valves; valve-gear.-An inner sleeve-valve 13 is rotated at a quarter of the speed of the shaft 1 by worm gears 18, 19, shaft 20, and pinion 21 engaging the toothed part 22 of the valve, and has two ports, one of which is shown at 14. The cylinder 6 comprises a cooling-jacket 8 and has two ports, one of which is shown at 16. Two cycles are completed in each revolution of the cylinder. The lower end of the valve 13 carries a,cam formation which engages a cam-seat 24, causing the valve to drop slightly during the intake and exhaust periods. A carbon packing 13<1> prevents escape of gas, and the lowering of the valve permits the deposit of additional carbon and reduces the friction loss.
