Abstract

1462745 Sheet transfer cylinder POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG KOMBINAT FUR POLYGRAPHISCHE MASCHINEN UND AUSRUSTUNGEN VEB 23 Jan 1975 [21 March 1974] 2985/75 Heading B6C The sheet-transfer cylinder 6 of a multicolour rotary printing machine is provided with suction devices 10 and mechanical grippers 11, 12 rotating with the cylinder. In use a suction device 10 contacts the trailing end of a printed sheet 13 just before it reaches the nip of impression drum 5 and the transfer cylinder 6, Fig. 2 (not shown); as cylinder 6 continues to rotate, the suction device 10 with the trailing end of the sheet 13 follow a trachoidal path, Fig. 6 (not shown), into the interior of cylinder 6, thus peeling the sheet off the drum 5. The end of the sheet 13 is transferred to a first gripper system 11 which tends to transport the sheet in the reverse direction to the cylinder rotation, Fig. 3 (not shown); second gripper system 12 pivots inwards and the sheet is transferred from system 11 to system 12, Fig. 4 (not shown). System 12 then transports the sheet round to the second impression drum 8. The trachoidal path of movement of the suction device is obtained through rollers co-operating with various camming surfaces, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown) and attached by articulated links to the suction device.
