Abstract

1460832 Carburetter throttle valve actuation SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 4 March 1974 [5 April 1973 19 Oct 1973] 9629/74 Heading F1B A throttle valve 3 is biased to a minimum open position by a first spring 10 and if the first spring breaks by a second torsion spring 12 which exerts a smaller closing torque than the first. In the embodiment shown the torsion spring 10 abuts a carburetter body projection 11 at one end 15 and a pin 9 projecting from a lever 8 fixed to the shaft 4 at the other end 16. The spring 12 abuts the projection 11 at one end 13 and the end 15 of the first spring at the other end 14 with the first spring intact. If the spring 12 breaks the end 14 abuts a pin 17 on the lever 8 and biases the valve 3 towards closing. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), an helical tension spring (117) acts on a lever (105) fixed to the shaft 4 through a member (109, 112) rotatably mounted on the shaft. The second torsion spring (118) acts between a projection (106) on the lever (105) and a projection (115) on the rotatable member to which the tension spring (117) is connected. If the tension spring breaks the rotatable member is rotated by the second spring (118) until a projection 114 on the member engages a stop (121) on the carburetter body. In a further embodiment, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the second spring (118a) is stressed between a projection (125) on the rotatable member (118a) and a notch (126) in a lever (115a) pivoted on the member. The tension spring (117a) retains the pivoted lever (115a) in a position relative to the rotatable member such that the second spring is retained in the notch. If the tension spring breaks the second spring is released to act on a projection on the lever (105a) fixed to the throttle shaft (4a) and a projection (125) on the rotatable member abuts a stop (121a) on the carburetter body.
