Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to close a valve rapidly and to open the valve by a single motion, by shifting a swing member between a state for fixing the valve in its opened position and a state for turning the valve to its closed position by the aid of a stopper having an actuating means and a member with a contact portion associated with the swing member.
CONSTITUTION: A first swing member 4 urged toward the valve closing direction by weight 5 is connected to one end portion of valve rod 3 of a butterfly valve 2 disposed in fluid transport passage 1. In the state that the valve is opened, the first swing member 4 is fixed in place through engagement with a second swing member 7 associated with an interconnecting member 10 having a pin 16 engageable with stopper 11. When stopper 11 is rendered inoperative by an actuating means, member 10 comes out of engagement. Resultantly, the first swing member 4 is turned toward valve closing direction by the function of weight 5 and the second swing member 7 comes out of engagement, so that valve 2 is closed. In the state that valve 2 is closed, on the other hand, contact portion 23 of member 10 is held in engagement with stopper 11. However, when the first swing member 4 is retracted to its valve opening position, the second swing member 7 and others are also returned to their valve opening positions. Thus, it is enabled to close the valve rapidly at the time of emergency and to open the valve subsequently by a single action.
