Abstract
965,526. Spray carburetters. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 24, 1963 [Aug. 2, 1962], No. 29242/63. Heading F1B. A carburetter choke valve 17, having a magnetic latch 49 holding it in the closed position, is connected through a spring 28 to a thermally responsive element such as a bimetallic spring 23, the spring 28 permitting the valve to open a predetermined amount under the effect of suction. The choke valve lever is connected to a lever 44 fast on a spindle 29 carrying a lever 31 with an arm 32 engaging a slot 34 in a lever 25 loose on the spindle, the spring 28 engaging tangs 33, 36, on the levers 31, 25, to urge the arm 32 against the side 34a of slot 34. The bimetallic spring 23 is connected to the arm 24 of lever 25 and rotates lever 25 anti-clockwise when cold to close the choke valve 17. The magnetic latch 49 increases the force on the choke valve when it is in or near its closed position. When the engine starts the increased suction opens flap 17 and the spindle 29 rotates, against the force of spring 28, within the limits of the lost motion slot 34. If the suction increases, the valve 17 opens further and arm 32 rotates lever 25 against the force of spring 23; if there is a subsequent decrease in suction, valve 17 returns to a position determined by the temperature of spring 23 and, if necessary, can return to the closed position.
