Abstract

1425133 Regulating IC engines AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 30 March 1973 [25 May 1972] 15326/73 Heading F1B An I.C. engine fuel control device comprises a user-activated control element 4, Fig. 1 connected to a resiliently closed fuel regulating means 22, Fig. 2 through connecting means including an electromagnetically controlled coupling 42, 43, the regulating means 22 is carried by a first member 24, the control element 4 is connected to a second member 26, members 24, 26 are concentric and inter-connected in normal operation by the coupling and separate yieldable return means 48, 35 are provided for each of the members. A normally-closed switch 8 is opened when pedal 15 is depressed and switch 7 is only open in the idling position of control member 4. In the event of a defect in the operative link between the pedal and the throttle member 22 occurring and if the latter is not in the idling position when the pedal is released the circuit is closed and electromagnet 5 is energized to disengage clutch 42, 43. Spindle 24 is released from its sleeve and returned to idling speed position. In a twin-carburetter assembly a spindle 25 carrying throttle member 23 is also free to move in its sleeve and is moved to the idling position by spring 61. A delay device prevents excessively rapid operation. In a modification of the twin-carburetter assembly a lost motion device (not described) in association with additional springs (73, 74) Fig. 5 (not shown) permits depression of the pedal beyond the normal maximum throttle opening position when used with an automatic gear box. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1288500.
