Abstract
1459511 Sliding nozzle assembly for a metallurgical vessel NIPPON KOKAN KK KOKAN KIKAI KOGYO KK and TOKYO YOGYO KK 25 Jan 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 03558/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division F2] A sliding nozzle assembly mounted at the bottom plate 1 of a metallurigal vessel (such as a ladle or tundish) for pouring molten steel comprises a nozzle 2, a stationary upper plate 3 having an opening 3<SP>1</SP>, a rotatable plate 4 having openings 9 1 , 9 2 and a rotatable sliding plate 5 having openings 6 1 , 6 2 . Plate 5 is rotatable by a pan shaped rotor 8 provided with nozzles 20. A driving gear 13 and transmission gear 14 can cause rotation either of plate 5 or plate 4. Plate 4 is fixed to an annular member 12 having a gear 10. Sliding plate 5 is rotated by the rotor 8 which has a gear 7. The transmission gear 14 can be moved by a rack 15 and pinion 19 to mesh with either gear 8 or 10. When steel is to be poured from the vessel, openings 91 and 6 1 are put in communication with opening 3<SP>1</SP>. Normal control of flow from the vessel is by rotation of the plate 5. However, plate 4 can be rotated (a) to change opening 9 2 for 9 1 when opening 9 1 has become enlarged through use or (b) to shut off molten metal flow when there is leakage of metal between the plates 4 and 5. In modified apparatus, the plates 4 and 5 (instead of being rotatable) are replaced by plates which are driven to reciprocate linearly. Further, plate 3 may be integral with nozzle 2 (instead of being separate therefrom), Fig. 4 (not shown).
