Abstract
1459142 Compositions containing benzamides UPJOHN CO 2 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 14260/76 Divided out of 1459141 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration, contain benzamides of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 each are H or C 1-6 alkyl; R 3 is C 1-6 alkyl and A is amino or -NHY, wherein Y is the acyl radical of a C 2-18 hydrocarbon carboxylic acid, with the provisos that (i) when R 1 is H, A is not 4-amino or 2-NHY; (ii) when R 1 is alkyl, A is amino; and (iii) when R 1 is 3-methyl, A is not 2 amino; in association with pharmaceutically acceptable sterile liquids or solid carrier. The compounds possess anticonvulsive activity and mild sedative and muscle relaxant properties.
