Abstract

1458959 Grommets BENDIX CORP 4 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974] 36492/75 Heading F2H A grommet 10 for sealing a plurality of wires passing therethrough comprises a body, e.g. of rubber, having a front face 11 and a rear face 12 with a plurality of parallel passages extending from the front face to the rear face, each passage having a cylindrical portion 20 opening into the front face 11 and a flared portion 30 that diverges outwardly in the direction of the rear face 12 and extends to the rear face, the flared portion 30 having a minimum or throat diameter D 2 less than, and a maximum diameter D 3 greater than, the cylinder D 1 of the cylindrical portion 20. Preferably Y 2 /Y 1 is greater than 1À5, where Y 2 is the length of the flared portion 30 and Y 1 is the distance from the inner end of the flared portion to its throat. The grommet is used in an electrical connector.
