Abstract

1458508 Backed rubber roofing laminate SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 10202/73 Heading B5N A laminated weather-resistant roofing material comprises a deformable backing layer, e.g. SBR-bonded asbestos or paper, bonded to a synthetic rubber layer which includes chlorosulphonated polyethylene and, as the major constituent, a tensile strength increasing agent, e.g. calcium carbonate coated with calcium stearate. The synthetic rubber may include low m.w. polyethylene, flame retardant plasticizer, e.g. chlorinated paraffin hydrocarbon, and an activator, e.g. MgO. An exemplified paper backing is china clay-bonded pulp board. The synthetic rubber may be bonded as an unvulcanized sheet to the backing by heated pressure rollers and allowed to vulcanize.
