Abstract

1458461 Thermal switch BEHR-THOMSON DEHNSTOFFREGLER GmbH 16 Sept 1974 [25 Sept 1973] 40246/74 Heading H1N A thermal switch comprises an actuator 3, Fig. 1, and a switch element 2 engaged in recesses 13, 22 of apertures at opposite ends of a housing 1 of elastically resilient material. The actuator 3 may comprise a housing 20 containing a substance which expands when heated to operate a piston 21. A switch actuator is engaged over piston 21 and has a flange 17 engaged by a return spring 11. In a modification the internal diameter of the housing 1 is large enough for the actuator 3 to be inserted from the upper end to rest against the formation 15 and is retained in position by an annular insert (12) Fig. 2 (not shown) having a bead (18) engaging an annular groove (19) in the wall of the housing 1. The thermal element may alternatively be a bi-metal snap-action spring. The thermal element casing may also be integral with the housing 1 or may be frictionally fitted in a recess of the housing.
