Abstract

1368555 Thermal switches GENERAL MOTORS CORP 18 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 2583/73 Heading H1N A thermal switch comprises a housing containing a printed circuit board 20 (two are shown in the embodiment) and a contact carrier 14 carrying contacts 84, 94 which make and break contact with the pattern of fixed contacts on the printed circuit board 20 when carrier 14 is advanced by thermally expansible device 18 on temperature increasing and when carrier 14 is pushed back by spring 16 on temperature decreasing. Device 18 comprises a diaphragm 120 surrounded by wax 144 which melts and expands on heating to squeeze diaphragm 120 to push forward stem 80 attached to carrier 14. The device is intended to be screwed into an internal combustion engine to indicate its temperature and is also connected to the ignition circuit and a heater blower circuit.
