Abstract

The combined thermostat and temperature fuse consists of a bimetal strip for sensing temperature. There is a rapid detent spring with electric switch contacts and a temperature fuse, comprising a cartridge of fusible metal, a plunger with one end embedded in the fusible metal and the other end pressing a spring with electric switch contacts. All the metal parts are in direct thermal contact with a rivet and collar which can be mounted onto the surface whose temperature is to be controlled. The thermostat and the temperature fuse operate independently of each other. The thermostat regulates the temperature by switching a heating current passing through the switch contacts and the temperature fuse over-rides these switch contacts, in case of breakdown, by fusion of the metal, ejection of the plunger and separation of the fuse switch contacts.
