Abstract

1457741 Feeding back yarn in open end spinners PLATT SACO LOWELL Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 57837/72 Heading D1D In an open end spinning machine means are provided to form two extended yarn paths for piecing up, one to feed back into the spinning means and located between the spinning means and a yarn delivery zone, the other to be taken up by the take up means and located between the yarn delivery zone and yarn takeup means. The extended yarn paths are maintained by latch members 18, 19 which cooperate with members 22, 23. During piecing fork members e.g. 43 hold the yarn out of the nip of delivery rollers 7, 8. Piecing is controlled by an operating member 17 which moves to the right in Fig. 3. Member 17 carries latch members 22, 23 so that its movement first releases the yarn reserves, further movement operates a micro-switch to initiate fibre delivery and yarn take up. Finally member 17 engages a projection 45 which swings fork members 43 to re-insert the yarn into the nip of the delivery rollers 7, 8. The rate at which member 17 moves is determined by a leaf spring (37) Fig. 2 (not shown) and a pneumatic damper 30. A yarn break detector 61 stops fibre feed and yarn take up and may also activate the piecing operation. The piecing operation is alternatively activated manually by a trigger 32. The piecing device may be provided at each spinning station or may be movable from station to station e.g. on rails. The latch 23 provides a shorter yarn path for use when a waste removal duct is provided downstream of the delivery rollers.
