1457064 Endless chain conveyers for muffle furnaces SOC D'EXPLOITATION D'INVENTIONS METALLURGIQUES MECANIQUES ELECTRIQUES ET CHIMIQUES 1 Oct 1974 [3 Oct 1973 12 July 1974] 42594/74 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] A chain conveyer for a muffle furnace comprises a series of alternate respective links 10, 13, between which there is a degree of lost motion. The links 10 have end faces 12 which are adapted to abut the end faces 12 of adjacent links 10 when the chain is under compression. In normal operation of the conveyer there are points C 1 and C 2 (Fig. 7) at which the chain is neither under tension or compression. Between the return wheel 3 and the point C 1 the chain is under compression, and between C 1 and the wheel 4 the chain is under tension. Both wheels 3 and 4 are driven by a transmission which includes a sliding joint 35 and clutch 36. The distance between the wheels 3 and 4 may be adjusted. There may be a brake on the shaft of the wheel 4. The furnace I<SP>1</SP> comprises a high temperature muffle 23 and a lower temperature muffle 23<SP>1</SP>. Articles (not shown) are inserted into a water cooled section 25 via an opening 26 and are positioned in openings 29 on sheets 28 carried by the links 10.
