Regulating .-An aircraft engine is designed to work at the desired compression pressure and to give the desired output at the maximum flying altitude, and a throttle valve is provided to reduce the supply of air, fuel, or mixture at lower altitudes so that the compression-pressure and the power of the engine are constant for all altitudes. This throttle valve is controlled by hand or by a barometric device. The usual throttle valve is also provided for reducing the speed or power of the engine when desired.
