Abstract
1454048 Container closure with over and under pressure valves M BEHR [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR BEHR] 1 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 04804/74 Heading B8T A closure having automatically operating suction valve and pressure relief valve for a container 25 provided with an aperture 14, characterized in that the closure comprises a central part 3 having slots 8 and 9 and functioning, in use as a pressure relief valve, a closure cap member 1, the central part 3 being connected to the closure member 1 by means of a rivet 15 and being axially movable against the action of a compression spring 2, a suction valve part 4 having a bore 6 and an annular rim 13, the valve part 4 being guided centrally in the central part 3, and a spring connection comprising a leaf spring 5, which is disposed transversely through slots 8 and 9 and the bore 6, for connecting the valve part 4 to the central part 3. The suction valve part 4 is movable relative to the central part 3 against the action of the spring 5 when a suction occurs in the container 25. A sealing ring 12 which is disposed under the flange 10 of the central part 3 and against which the rim 13 of the suction valve part 4 abuts acts as a seat for that valve part. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the central portion (23) is axially slidable within a sleeve portion (16) of the cap (21) within limits imposed by the engagement of a shoulder (19), formed on an extension (18) of the central portion (23), with a projection (17) formed on the sleeve portion (16) and the sliding motion is facilitated by a groove formed below the shoulder (19). In this embodiment a sealing washer (26) is provided between the undersurface of the cap member (21) and the compression spring 2. The cap member, the central part and the suction valve part of the closure are made of synthetic plastics material. The sealing ring 12, and the washer (26) can also be made of any suitable material such as synthetic rubber. The cap of the closure may be dyed or made of coloured plastics.
