1396689 Valves SCOVILL MFG CO 8 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973 24 Sept 1973] 00891/74 Heading F2V An inflataion valve comprises a body 1 having a flange 11 and a shank 13 into which is loosely screwed a sleeve 6 which carries a resilient closure member 7 which seats on the end of the sleeve. The closure member includes an integral stud which is press-fitted in a diametral strut in the sleeve set back from the seating end of the sleeve so that the closure member is pre-stressed against the seat. A nut 5 and washer 4 serve to grip the inflatable article 3 against the flange 11 of the body with the interposition of a sealing washer 2 of tapering crosssection. The nut 5, which has V-section threads to engage similar threads on the body, has peripheral notches 51 for engagement by a tool, an axially extending flange to form a groove to engage an anchoring tab 85 on a flexible sealing cap 8 and a radially extending flange under which the periphery of the cap engages. The cap includes a hollow central stud 81 which presses into and seals with the sleeve 6. The flange 11 is provided with grooves 15 to prevent a part of the inflatable article from blocking the valve during deflation. In an alternative form of the sealing cap, Figs. 6, 7 and 8 (not shown), the central stud includes an inner end, the outer end being open, from which a central push-button extends. Pressing this button inwardly distorts the stud and allows the cap to be withdrawn from within the seal.
