Abstract
1452901 Electro-plating silicon carbide bodies for bonding UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 7 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 13973/73 Heading C7B A self-bonded silicon carbide body formed from a pressed mixture of green silicon carbide and carbon by treatment with molten silicon or silicon vapour is treated to remove free surface silicon, e.g. with sodium hydroxide or with hydrofluoric acid/nitric acid mixture, and is electro-plated with a metal, e.g. Ni or Cu. The plated surface may then be bonded to a metal, e.g. stainless steel, part, e.g. by brazing with silver solder. A Ni plating solution may contain NiCl 2 , NiSO 4 , boric acid, Na formate and "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark).
