Abstract
1451718 Heating and drying granulates BUTTNER-SCHILDE-HAAS AG 4 April 1974 April 1973] 15061/74 Headings F4G and F4U The invention relates to a method of continuous heat treatment of granulates of initially substantially amorphous polyester and apparatus for carrying out the method. The method comprises a first stage in which the granulate is heated passing it as a thin veil over a heated contact surface and a second stage in which it is dried with a hot gaseous drying medium while in a closely packed state. As shown the first stage is carried out in a treatment unit 1 which comprises a cylindrical wall 2 which is constructed as a double shell for the introduction therein of a heating medium e.g. steam. A rotatable shaft carries peddles 6 which in use cause the granulate to be moved adjacent the wall about the whole inner periphery of the wall 2 to form the thin veil and also cause the granulate to move along the unit 1. The granulate passes into a shaft dryer 11 which has an inclined screen floor 12 through which heating air provided by a blower 13 and passing a heat exchanger 14 is blown. A cyclone 15 extracts dust from the exhausted heating air. The exhausted heating air may firstly be passed through the unit 1 before passing to the cyclone 15.
