Abstract

1451523 Pressing ceramic powder MASCHINENBAU UND-VERTRIEBS GmbH 14 Feb 1974 [15 Feb 1973] 6779/74 Heading B5A A plate or the like is compression moulded from ceramic powder, which is evenly spread over a resilient membrane 12 by a rotary plate 11, by a punch 44 shaped to correspond with the upper surface of the plate. The membrane, which has an annular depression 48 to provide an annular ridge on the lower surface of the plate, seals a space 32 supplied with hydraulic fluid via a connection 28 and passage 31, ceramic powder is fed on to the membrane from a funnel 5 swung horizontally by an arm 4 about a column 2, and the plate 11 is rotated by a motor 9 via a belt 7 and pulley 6; during such feeding the membrane is supported by a plate 23 bearing on a spring 25. On lowering the punch the membrane is depressed, Fig. 3, to contact a body 19 held against a block 14 by rods 36 attached to a member 34 threaded to a spindle 37. After pressing, the pressure within the space 32 is released and the membrane raised by the plate 23. A skirt of the membrane is clamped between the parts 14, 19, and a lip 16 of the skirt is clamped between rings 17, 18.
