Abstract

1466143 Seals KOBE STEEL Ltd 22 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 22891/74 Heading F2B In a rotary kiln, a stationary head 8 is resiliently supported independently of the kiln body 1, to avoid transmitting supporting forces through a stuffing box seal and thereby subjecting the packing rings to abrasive pressure. The seal has metal rings alternating with the packing rings 4 and 3 respectively. A grease nipple 12 is provided. Carriage 24 enables the hood to follow longitudinal movement of the end of the kiln body 1. The resilient support, provided by springs 22, is adjustable by means of nuts 23. In another form, a resilient suspension (25-27, Fig. 2, not shown) is provided.
