Abstract

1416370 Presses COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 31 Dec 1973 [11 Jan 1973] 60241/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] Powder to be sintered is introduced into a chamber 1 through a valve 11 which is then closed and clamped against a seat 10 by fluid pressure applied to a piston 13 before the powder is compressed by a ram 37. When the pressure applied to the piston 13 increases to a value determined by a device 42, a valve (not shown) directs the fluid supply from line 43 through line 28a to the ram. After a predetermined interval, the line 43 is connected to exhaust and fluid is admitted to a chamber 26 to lift the piston 13 so that the valve 11 can be returned to open position by a stem 18. A sub-assembly 2, containing the valve 11, and the ram 37 are removable. The apparatus may be used to make ceramic bodies for sparking plugs.
