Abstract

1451366 Liquid developer AUSTRALIA DEPT OF MEG-INDUSTRY 28 Sept 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 45624/73 Heading G2H A liquid developer comprises, in separate co-existence within an insulating carrier liquid having a resistivity greater than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm.cm. and a dielectric constant less than 3, (a) toner particles having a dielectric constant of the same order of magnitude as the carrier liquid and (b) movement inducing particles constituted predominently of metal and having a relatively high dielectric constant capable of charge exchange with the surface containing a latent image to be developed and with surrounding particles, so that they move around within the developer causing agitation. The toner particles may be colouring medium coated with a resin. Examples of suitable mediums and resins are given. The particle (b) may be aluminium bronze, zinc, aluminium, nickel, copper, tin, iron, chromium or an intermetallic compound and may be resin coated to lower their effective dielectric constant. The developer is advantageously used to develop images on a photo-conductive surface that has been rendered more conductive by the inclusion in the surface layer thereof particulate conductive particles e.g. metal particles or another medium which increases conductivity. Examples of suitable photo-conductive surface are given.
